Fall Native Plant Sale

Once again, the Backyard Bird Center will host a fall native plant sale. This year it will be run by and will benefit The Platte Land Trust on Saturday, September 23, from 9 am to 2 pm.  Fall is a great time to plant natives. The growing season is almost over; the warm soil and cooler air temperatures give plants a boost in root growth, gaining a year development on natives planted in the spring.  Native plants improve habitat in your yard by supporting insects that serve as an important food source for nesting birds. We have had such wonderful response to past native plant classes and sales, we are expanding on it the education aspect a bit this year. You can participate in a 2 Part Class before the sale. If you have been to one of these sales, you know that it is important to come early as there are only limited supplies of certain plants. You can visit www.mowildflowers.net to get an idea of what kinds of plants he will be bringing and even place a preorder.
